2026 Auditions

Ready to
audition?

The Dance Line consists of 15–20 members. Returners are required to re-audition every year and are not guaranteed a spot on the team. The University of Miami Hurricanettes will be hosting in-person auditions April 11–12, 2026. The audition consists of three rounds over a two-day weekend, starting Saturday April 11th with finalists continuing on Sunday April 12th.

Two Pre-Tryout clinics will be offered and are highly recommended for your audition preparation. It is highly recommended, but not required, to attend both Friday clinics (March 20 and March 27) prior to auditioning in April.

Audition / Clinic Location:

What to expect

Audition Appearance

Please wear all-black attire both days: crop / sports-bra style top, booty shorts (not high-waisted), white sneakers or cheer shoes, and jazz shoes. Outfits may be embellished with stones or sequins. No tights, tattoos must be covered, no piercings (stud earrings only). Hair down with full performance makeup. Please arrive as you would look for a Game Day — we want to be able to imagine you in our uniform. Reference our social media for hair and makeup styles.

Registration

Candidates will receive a number to wear both days of the audition weekend. Please provide a current headshot upon check-in (this will not be returned).

First Day

We begin with technique and across the floor — flexibility (splits, kicks), turns, leaps, extensions, and power. Judges look for dance technique as well as performance and athleticism. Dancers then learn a jazz routine and pom routine. Choreography may be performed in small groups, with semi-finalists taking the choreography home to practice and perform again for judges the next day.

Second Day

Dancers are divided into small groups of 3–4 to showcase splits, kicks, and perform both routines back-to-back. It is highly recommended to watch performance videos on our YouTube to gain awareness of the Hurricanettes "dance style" and to have an idea of pom choreography.

Cuts / Interview

Please dress in business attire and be prepared to present yourself in a professional manner. Judges value appearance and honesty when evaluating potential members.

Tryouts last as long as it takes the judges to make their decisions. We hope to be done by 5:00 PM, but be prepared for an earlier or later finish. Please bring snacks and water to help get you through the long day of auditions. Selected squad members will be announced online that evening with an email invitation to join the new Miami Hurricanettes!

Please email txg554@miami.edu with any clarification inquiries on audition expectations.
